Possible applications are a
message filter to limit the network messages being sent back to the
host, or a supervisor or sequencer to implement basic actions, such as
sample handling or basic process control, removing this task from the
host.
A
second node is included on the board. This node includes the basic
kernel providing communications, control and self programming
capability. There is no application pre-programmed onto this node.
The
node is intended to run user supplied supervisor or sequencer
applications. In many cases the complete set of complex sequential
activities can be programmed into this node, freeing the host from this
task. For example, where items or samples need to be selected or loaded
for measurement, analysis or processing, the host could simply issue a
'Load A1' command to this node leaving it to supervise the entire
operation of loading the item.
Some
MonCon microcontroller modules require the additional +/-15 Volt power supplies for
their analog input output circuitry. The P0603 USB Master Module includes a
DC-DC
converter to provide these power supplies thus removing the need to
provide them externally.
There
is a separate power supply requirement for driving motors, valves and
other high power devices. The USB master node includes a control output
for turning on/off this 'dirty' power supply. Additionally it includes
inputs for monitoring the power supply and reporting its status back to
the host.
On
the P0603 USB Master Module the
USB interface is a full USB 2.0 implementation. It includes the ability
to program a unique device descriptor (pre-programmed as 'MonCon') and a
serial number.
